Hanworth battery energy storage system

About the project

Octopus Australia via Enervest is pursuing development approval for a battery energy storage system (BESS), with up to 1.2 gigawatt (GW) / 4.8 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of storage capacity in the locality of Bannaby NSW.

The Project site is in the Upper Lachlan Shire, approximately 20km east of Taralga, and 60km north of Goulburn, with a maximum development size of 12 hectares (ha).

Octopus Australia intends to manage the Project from construction, into operation, and eventually decommissioning over the anticipated lifespan of 20- 25 years.

Benefits

Electrical grid stability

The Project will improve the stability and reliability of the electricity network by storing energy during periods of low demand and dispatching energy during periods of peak demand and emergency events.

Create jobs

The Project would bring direct employment opportunities, with approximately 200 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs expected during construction, and 4 FTE jobs during operation.

Income to local area

Economic benefits will be injected into the community through ancillary services such as accommodation, food, and fuel providers during the development period.

Community benefit scheme

Octopus Australia will look to delivering long-term investment in the region and share benefits through a community benefit sharing (CBS) program, which will support the local community.
